Abate Fetel

The Queen: Abate Fetel

Discovered in France in the mid-1800s, the Abate Fetel pear spread to Italy, particularly Emilia-Romagna, after World War II. The fertile plains of the Po River proved ideal for cultivating this variety, making it the most loved in Italy and worldwide.

Italy is the largest producer of Abate Fetel pears in the world. Choosing it means supporting and preserving one of the most important fruits in our tradition. At Fruit Modena Group, we dedicate almost half of our production (40%) to Abate Fetel pears.

These pears have a long and elegant shape, commonly known as “swan neck.” Their sizes range from 55 to over 85 mm in diameter, with a weight between 150 and over 300 grams.

QUALITY

Pears’ nutritional value

Pears, appreciated for their taste and juiciness, are a rich source of essential minerals and trace elements. Thanks to their high content of potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, and copper, they support proper cell function. This fruit is highly digestible and offers antioxidant, diuretic, and refreshing benefits, making it an ideal choice for a healthy and low-sodium diet.

Pears are also an excellent source of soluble fibre, such as pectin, which helps remove residues and toxins, lowers cholesterol, and aids in weight loss. The insoluble fibre found in their skin and flesh absorbs some of the sugars consumed with other foods. So, the consumption of this fruit is not only delicious, but also beneficial for health.
