The Kaiser-Bosc pear

Discovered in France in the early 19th century, the Kaiser pear is now exclusively grown in the Po Valley. This proves to be an ideal region for its growth, providing the perfect soil conditions.

This ancient autumn-winter cultivar is characterised by a vigorous and productive tree. It is a fruit that keeps well in the short term, though it is susceptible to various post-harvest changes. At the same time, it offers good resistance to cold storage. This pear is particularly versatile in the kitchen, perfect for creating a wide range of sweet and savoury recipes.

Among our PGI labelled pear varieties, you can also find Kaiser. It is a true excellence expertly grown in our region. Its production process is carefully monitored to guarantee its full traceability, high quality, and sweetness.

Fruits are medium to large-sized and pear-shaped, with a long and lignified stem. The skin, dark brown at harvest, turns yellow-russet when fruits reach ideal ripeness. Their flesh is crunchy, firm, fine, and aromatic, with a truly sugary and delicious taste. They are excellent when consumed fresh, but the firm flesh makes the Kaiser pear the best choice for cooking.

The Kaiser pear is typically harvested between the third week of August and the first week of September, when it reaches its ideal ripeness.

The Kaiser pear is available on the market from the second week of September to the end of April.

Pears’ nutritional value

Pears, appreciated for their taste and juiciness, are a rich source of essential minerals and trace elements. Thanks to their high content of potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, and copper, they support proper cell function. This fruit is highly digestible and offers antioxidant, diuretic, and refreshing benefits, making it an ideal choice for a healthy and low-sodium diet.

Pears are also an excellent source of soluble fibre, such as pectin, which helps remove residues and toxins, lowers cholesterol, and aids in weight loss. The insoluble fibre found in their skin and flesh absorbs some of the sugars consumed with other foods. So, the consumption of this fruit is not only delicious, but also beneficial for health.
